DAVIE · Dolphins coach Cam Cameron indicated Friday that if Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Trent Green were to join the team, that wouldn't necessarily mean Daunte Culpepper would immediately leave. "He hasn't been on the field," Cameron said of the sidelined quarterback. "He hasn't been 100 percent. ... For me to make an evaluation on a guy I've never seen play with my own two eyes, I'm not going to go there." At the team's organized coaching sessions last week, Culpepper took snaps from center and practiced in 4-on-4 team drills. But he watched from the sidelines Friday as quarterbacks Cleo Lemon, Gibran Hamdan and rookie John Beck took turns leading the offense. Culpepper and Cameron said the reduced role had to do with the types of drills the team ran rather than a setback in his knee rehabilitation, and that Culpepper plans to be ready for more participation at the June 8-10 minicamp. "Everything's a go as far as I know," Culpepper said. "I'm going to see Dr. [James] Andrews in the next couple of weeks for a little bit more clearance, but at the same time my mind is still the same, still going forward." STILL NO GINN First-round pick Ted Ginn Jr. was not permitted to attend practice because he hasn't graduated from Ohio State yet. Anthony Gonzalez, the other Buckeye wide receiver drafted in the first round, practiced Thursday with the Indianapolis Colts because he graduated in December, according to NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis. Ginn, a junior, is nursing a sprained foot, but he's expected to rejoin the team in time for the next minicamp. The veterans are off for the next 10 days, while the rookies will return Tuesday. ... The Dolphins signed sixth-round fullback Reagan Mauia to a four-year deal and have signed five of their 10 draft picks. TALK WITH BIG DADDY Cameron said the Dolphins finally reached veteran defensive lineman Dan Wilkinson by phone, but he's still uncertain whether he will retire. "There's some things going on there that they have to work out," Cameron said of Wilkinson, who voided a trade to the Broncos after he didn't report. ... Backup running back Lorenzo Booker, who signed a four-year, $2.1 million contract Thursday, is a self-admitted momma's boy. "The only thing I'm excited about is my mom doesn't have to do anything," Booker said. "[My family] won't have to worry about stuff that normal people shouldn't have to worry about -- paying rent, going to the doctor." |
